STEALING OSCAR
When Eddie a failed actor steals Gwyneth Paltrow’s Oscar he sets in motion events that force him to confront his past.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
People from around the globe come to Los Angeles chasing a dream, searching for the pot of gold at the end of the Hollywood rainbow. They are seduced by the allure and glamour of the movie industry. However the reality of Hollywood is often very different from its glossy perception.
I grew up in South Africa, as a foreigner I always had an outsiders view of Hollywood. My image was that of the old Hollywood, glamorous people, movie stars, fame and fortune. When I immigrated to Los Angeles I was confronted with the to often-sad reality of actors struggling for success.
I have always been fascinated by the allure of fame and the sacrifices made to achieve Hollywood success.
Los Angeles is a city filled with seekers fuelled on an ounce of hope from an up coming audition, a movie idea, a newly minted script for the next blockbuster or the spirited encouragement from an agent or insider. Many of these seekers find themselves trapped in a cycle of false hope, waiting for the moment when they will be discovered, until they realize they have thrown away the good years of their lives and sacrificed way too much while chasing the dream.
